Has anyone had a drug addiction?

Miss Amber asked:

If so, please let me know what helped for you. For myself, Ive been addicted to cocaine and pain medicine for about 4 years. I’m starting outpatient treatment tomorrow :) Just wanted to know what has helped for you…or anyone you know. Thanks so much.

My husband had an addiction to pain killers oxycontin to be exact. He went through outpatient treatment and has been off of them for 5 years now!!!! It will work if you want it to work. Good luck!

Let me tell you I’m drug free and always has been but my sisters and brother has had this problem.
Your mom is a BIG BIG important part of this and anyone else in your family.
Now if you don;t have anyone depenable then I would would turn to God. You should anyways
Just make sure you know this is a BIG changing point in your life and its a GOOD one.
Coffee helps too ;p

I was addicted to alcohol.
helped me. The worksheets they have and the message boards, also the online meetings.

I couldn’t deal with the whole AA outlook of “I have no control”. I am living proof that you can control your urges and not listen to that little voice, that addictive side of yourself when it starts whining for the drug. It is also free to use and you don’t have to go to some smoky church basement with a bunch of weird people in order to participate. Sorry if I offended any of you AA peoples, I know it has worked for some people but I just couldn’t do that program. There are many people who use the SMART Recovery website who do AA or NA too and get the best of both worlds.

Good luck.

good luck to you…

I escaped cocaine and I thank god every day for that…I was one of the lucky ones as I didn’t lose my job or posessions…but I lost self respect that has taken years to gain back…one second at a time…email me anytime.

I nearly got addicted to really strong pain killers after surgery!
While I was recovering I didn`t need them as much but kept taking them anyway because of the high they gave. When I ran out I phoned my GP who just kept repeating the prescription. Had a meeting with myself and stopped it!
Far too easy these days to get addicted.
Good luck

My addiction nearly took me to prison,…
I got lucky with good advice from my brother and went into long term inpatient recovery house, then to 12 step (mostly NA) meetings. I work a spiritual program, have become a much better person, trust god, be of service to others.

The 12 step meetings work if you want them to, hell anything can work if you want it to! Desire to not be that piece of crap ever again is truly key!
