How can I report a possible drug situation at my apartment complex without putting my safety in jeopardy?

Terra asked:

I have lived in this aparment complex for about 10 months. Almost every night I smell something very foul- I had just been assuming someone was cooking dinner, and I was extemely thankful I didn’t have to eat it – it smells so NASTY. It smells like someone is cooking on a stove or oven that has never been cleaned, it is a horrid smell. I mentioned it to my Mom recently, and she said it sounds like it’s not food they’re cooking, but crystal meth. She asked her friend, who is a specialist in drug counseling/rehabilitation, and her friend feels strongly that it is crystal meth they are cooking, and is urging me to report it – she says the fumes can be extremely harmful.

But I am afraid for my safety… Is there an anonymous way I can report this? Can I just give the apartment building number rather than my apt number… if they come to my apartment first, everyone will know it was me that reported it.

Thanks for any advice/information!
I don’t have too much of a choice of where I live – Believe me if I could afford it I would live somewhere better… but even in the nicest places there are things like that going on. How am I supposed to know? How is anyone supposed to know?
Marketplight – I see that not only are you narrow-minded, and disrespectful to the many police officers who DO put their lives on the line everyday to protect the communities, but you are also a chauvinist pig whose answers I could never take seriously, and obviously by the ratings of your answer to my question, others cannot either.
To everyone else – Thanks for all the great answers and advice… I am definetely going to report this!

YOU CAN’T!!!!!
Move away from the area and live in a quiet safe place. Make better choices about where you want to live. USA is full of druggies and losers. And, the politicians and police don’t want that to change. Those druggies are revenue. If it weren’t for them, those cops and judges wouldn’t be drawing a pay-check.. USA is a big game and the hypocrasy is never-ending!
EDIT: You don’t have a choice to where you can live? Well, for one your female. 2) if you good looking, than present yourself as a lady and a class act to nice gentleman and get married and live happily ever after in a nice area.. Why don’t woman get that one?

You could stop at a pay phone somewheres away from your building and report it to the narc squad of the police. Just give the the apartment building number and if you know which apt the smell is coming from–give that number. No other info is needed.
cooking crystal meth is dangerous as it can blow up, so you should report your suspicion.

Yes, i would just report the apartment number, because if the officer or drug team goes there and smells it too, they have probable cause and will be allowed to go in. If the people who live there are really skinny, they are probably meth heads because that junk makes its victims skinny. Just try look for a hotline and call it etc… You wont even have to testify in court if they find something, because finding all the equipment and drugs is all the evidence they need.
I would be very suspicious since its a poor area. It is probably meth cookers at work. Try and help keep drugs off the streets, that stuff turns people into monsters. Report them before more people are hurt or the apartment blows up.

We had a family of Hindus or maybe they were Pakistanis or something living next door. They cooked up curry and other weird stuff to eat and I can’t begin to tell you how nasty that stuff smells. And there’s no getting away from it. Whatever it is that those people eat should be a violation of the Geneva Convention or something. Permeates the walls, gets into your furniture, gags your breathing, I thought nerve gas was illegal. I moved out. I think the EPA has declared it a toxic dump site now.

But if your situation isn’t that bad, then maybe it’s just drugs. You’ll know for certain when the kitchen detonates and makes your building look like Oklahoma City after Timmy got done with it.
